Youth Auditions for Ballet Arizona’s The Nutcracker

Imagine your child on stage with the Valley’s only professional ballet company. See your child perform on stage with Ballet Arizona’s professional company dancers and The Phoenix Symphony this December! Students auditioning for Ballet Arizona’s The Nutcracker have the chance to receive the role of Clara, the Nutcracker Prince, Party Child, Soldier, Angel, or a Bon Bon.

Perfect for students ages 9-18, this is an experience that you won’t want to miss. Please note, students must be 9 by December 1st or be in The School of Ballet Arizona’s Level 2 to audition.

All students auditioning are required to bring their registration form and registration fee (if applicable) on the day of the audition. Students must fill out the registration form prior to the audition and turn it in on the day of the audition. Audition fee is $15 for students not from The School of Ballet Arizona and is free to all students at The School of Ballet Arizona and Arizona School for the Arts.

Registration begins one hour prior to scheduled audition time, and students should finish their registration 30 minutes prior to their audition time. Dancers should come dressed in classical ballet attire for the audition. Girls: Tights, leotard, and ballet shoes (no skirts), hair in a bun. No dangling jewelry. Boys: Trim fitted t-shirt or leotard, tights or bicycle shorts, ballet shoes, jazz shoes or socks.

Audition times are as follows: 9:30-10:00 am (ALL Boys, ages 9-18, or SBAZ Level 2 and up); 10:00 -10:45 am (SBAZ Level 2-4/ASA Grades 5 & 6); 10:45 am – 11:30 am (SBAZ Level 5-6/ASA Grade 7 & 8); 11:30 am – 12:00 pm (SBAZ Level PPP & up/ASA High School); 12:00 -12:30 pm (Open audition Girls, ages 9-12); 12:30 – 1:00 pm (Open audition Girls, ages 13-18).

All auditioning must attend the audition for their age group and should be available to stay additional time on the day of the auditions.

Youth auditions will take place at Ballet Arizona (2835 E. Washington Street Phoenix, AZ 85034) on Sunday, September 10, 2023. For questions about Nutcracker Youth Auditions, please email questions@balletaz.org.

The Nutcracker will be performed at Symphony Hall with the Phoenix Symphony. Rehearsals for the Youth Cast are broken down by character on Saturdays starting September 16^th and run through December 2^nd, with the exception of: October 14, November 18 & 25^th.  Tech rehearsals are Wednesday, December 6, Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8.
