‘Grease: Live’ set to air on Fox!

Grease musical live on FOX channelThe Dance Informa team is counting down the days till Fox Broadcasting Company and Paramount Television’s live production of Grease airs! Grease: Live will bring a new all-star cast together to play all the characters from the beloved 1978 film when it premieres on Sunday, January 31 at 7 pm (eastern time.)

The incredibly attractive and talented cast includes dance sweetheart Julianne Hough as “Sandy.” Hough is perhaps best known in pop culture for her roles in the movies Safe Haven and Footloose, as well as her country singing, but us dancers know her from Dancing With The Stars (where she now serves as a judge), her national Move Live On Tour show with her brother (Derek Hough) and her role of “Sherrie Christian” in the 2012 film adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages. Along with two others, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography last year.

Opposite her is Aaron Tveit (Next to Normal) as lead heartthrob “Danny Zuko.” Vanessa Hudgens, fresh from attending the High School Musical reunion, portrays bad girl “Rizzo.” (She’s bound to be a stunner in the role after mastering her musical skills in Broadway’s Gigi and her rebel spirit in the film Spring Breakers.) In addition, actress Keke Palmer of Broadway’s Cinderella joins in as “Marty” and Big Time Rush actor Carlos PenaVega, fresh from competing on Dancing With the Stars, performs the role as “Kenickie,” Zuko’s tough-guy sidekick.

Grease: Live is being produced by Marc Platt of Wicked and Into the Woods fame. Thomas Kail (Hamilton, In the Heights) is the director overseeing the stage direction and Alex Rudzinski (Dancing with the Stars) will serve as the live television director. The new adaptation is based on the original musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.
