Ballet Academy East in Spring Performance

Ballet Academy East's Spring Performance featuring the Pre-Professional DivisionBallet Academy East will present its Spring Performance featuring the Pre-Professional Division, levels 2-9, on May 15-17.

 

Established in 1979, Ballet Academy East is made up of four divisions. The Pre-Professional Division for ages 7-19, led by Artistic Director Darla Hoover, trains dancers for professional careers in ballet. An audition is required for admission.

 

For this Spring Performance, the current pre-professional students will perform repertory from faculty member Jenna Lavin (former company member of Chicago City Ballet, Atlanta Ballet and Miami City Ballet) plus guest choreographers Matthew Neenan (BalletX Co-Founder and Pennsylvania Ballet Choreographer-in-Residence), Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Margo Sappington (a former Joffrey Ballet dancer and Tony and Drama Desk Award nominee) and Sacramento Ballet dancer Rex Wheeler.

 

Performances will be at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at 524 W. 59th Street in New York City.

 

Shows are scheduled for: Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 16 at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 17 at 2 p.m. Saturday’s 2 p.m. performance will be a special family matinee, which will feature craft activities in the lobby during intermission (recommended for ages 6 and up).
