DailyDanceWear: Presenting Robin Cantrell!
Introducing DailyDanceWear—a weekly column bringing you fresh dance fashions spotted in various classrooms and rehearsal spaces in New York and across the country! For this inaugural post of DailyDanceWear, we’ve got a real eye-catching ensemble modeled by the ever-stylish Robin Cantrell.
Dancer Robin Cantrell started out her career as a classical ballerina and now performs primarily as a contemporary dancer with Battery Dance Company in New York City. She performs and teaches all over the world, and directs her own popular Brooklyn-based dance company called Indelible Dance.
Cantrell wore this outfit (pictured here) for a pop-up ballet class at Battery Dance Studios in NYC, the same studios where she rehearses with Battery Dance Company. The shiny leotard in a burnt lemon color is of unknown origin, found in the piles of what must have been the coolest Buffalo Exchange ever. The wild leggings on the other hand have a very special maker—Cantrell’s sister-in-law, designer Anna Love.
Love creates leggings in a variety of amazing patterns and colors, and you can see her leggings (as well as all sorts of geometrically patterned costumes) in the performances of Indelible Dance.
Why these two pieces? Cantrell shared, “I usually wear whatever is next on top of the pile of clean dance clothes. I pay zero attention to matching or color coordinating.” And thus, a unique look was born.
Cantrell tends to go for a leotard and “custom crazy leggings made by my sister-in-law” for her ballet attire, and a brightly colored tank with sweats and socks for contemporary, “almost always American Apparel,” she added.
Check it out and tell us what outfits you love to wear! Find out more about Battery Dance Company at www.batterydance.org and Indelible Dance at http://indelibledance.com. To learn more about Love’s leggings, watch her video at https://vimeo.com/12002970.
