Eisenhower Dance Detroit is ‘On the Move’

On the Move Fall 2018Following its Season Launch Party on Friday, September 28, Eisenhower Dance Detroit (EDD) will kick off its 28th annual Metro Series with On the Move, the first of three local performances during the company’s 2018-19 season. Performances are on Saturday, October 20 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. in Oakland University’s Varner Recital Hall in Rochester.

On the Move has been our season opener since the company was founded due to our everlasting relationship with Oakland University and the Oakland University Credit Union, as well as our residency with the university,” said EDD Artistic Director Stephanie Pizzo. “It is an important performance not only for its historical tie to the company, but also to highlight the importance of the school and its dance program to Eisenhower Dance Detroit.”

Pizzo added, “The overarching idea for this season is a collision of the arts, in that each event features another medium of art as well as dance.”

In partnership with the Oakland University Art Gallery, artwork curated by Professor of Art Chair Dick Goody will be showcased in the lobby before the Saturday evening performance. There will be a pre-show talk on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with Pizzo and Goody highlighting the intention of their work and the immediate importance of art that is needed in our society now more than ever.

On the Move is the first of three local Metro Series performances during EDD’s 2018-19 season, followed by December Dances on December 7 and F|E|E|L on March 23, two returning performances that emphasize the good nature of the holiday season and love in all of its forms, respectively. As another foray into breaching the city of Detroit, EDD is currently planning a pop-up performance in Detroit to be revealed at a later date.
