Louisville Ballet’s ‘Nutcracker’ audition

Louisville Ballet's NutcrackerThe Louisville Ballet will host an open children’s audition for The Brown-Forman Nutcracker on Sunday, August 18 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Louisville Ballet studios, located at 315 E. Main St. between Preston and Floyd Streets in Louisville, KY.

For decades, thousands of young dancers have had an opportunity to perform with the professional ballet company learning more about the art form and gaining real-life experience in the theatre. This year, the Louisville Ballet invites local children aged 7-18 with at least one year of dance training to audition for The Brown-Forman Nutcracker.

Audition information and applications are available online at www.louisvilleballet.org/DanceSchool. Completed applications must be returned by August 9 to attend the audition. There is a $20 audition fee. The Brown-Forman Nutcracker runs December 7-22 in Whitney Hall at The Kentucky Center.

The Louisville Ballet first premiered the production of The Brown-Forman Nutcracker in December 2009. Based on a concept from Artistic Director Bruce Simpson and realized through the imaginations of acclaimed choreographer Val Caniparoli and world-renowned designer Peter Cazalet, this version of The Nutcracker has a decidedly Louisville feel – drawing images like the St. James Fountain and Derby Jockeys into the production. Magic elements created specifically for this ballet by master illusionist, Marshall Magoon, complete this amazing experience.
