New Project 7 dance show at 7 Stages

Project 7 rehearses BOXThe Atlanta-based contemporary dance company Project 7 launches its latest show in a series of performances this month. Founder, Director and Choreographer Cherrise Wakeham describes the show BOX as an evaluation and investigation of standards.

“From birth, we are introduced to an environment that molds, structures and forms us into the image of acceptable human behavior,” Wakeham explains. “These processes create a certain standard of ideas that shape our perspective as we grow, producing fixed categories or ‘boxes’ that we choose to accept or reject on a regular basis.”

Wakeham’s choreography is known to be a blend of both fluid and edgy contemporary dance disciplines. Her works aim to create an intimate, otherworldly atmosphere for audience members. In BOX, guests will follow a glowing pathway that leads directly into the 65-seat black box theater space – as if entering a portal to another world.

The show will be a seamless, hour-long experience featuring the lighting creations of Joseph Futral and Heather Pynne, and elaborate set design of Jim Pounds. Dancers include Sarah Allen, Lindsay Friedrich, Sheila Kaiser, Lauren Overstreet, Ali Peecher, Allison Pohlman and Ashley Watson.

Shows will take place at 7 Stages Theater, located at 1105 Euclid Ave. NE in Atlanta. BOX will be presented on: Thursday, January 30 at 8 p.m.; Friday, January 31 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.; and Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tickets are $22 and are available at www.7stages.org or 404-523-7647.
