Open Call hosts first Athens regionals

Open Call Dance Competition in Athens in 2015After recently visiting Kansas City, Missouri and Columbus, Ohio, Open Call will bring its regional dance competition tour to Athens, Georgia for the first time this weekend, on February 13-15.

 

Athens, a city known for its young, hip vibe and great local eateries, will welcome dancers to its Classic Center Theater, where dancers of all ages can perform and compete for exclusive and cutting edge opportunities.

 

Kicking off this southern event, Open Call will host a master class led by judge Cat Cogliandro on Friday evening. Although a native of Houston, Texas, Cat Cogliandro currently splits her time between New York and L.A., teaching at various studios like Broadway Dance Center, The Edge, Millennium Dance Complex, Peridance and Movement Lifestyle. Cogliandro has danced professionally with many choreographers – including Al Blackstone, Tyce Diorio, Sonya Tayeh and Jaci Royal –and her credits include So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Got Talent. Her contemporary class in Athens will begin at 7:15 p.m. and will give dancers a chance to test the stage prior to competing.

 

On Saturday, February 14, the competition’s doors open at 8 a.m. Solo routines will be presented first, and then the duos, trios, groups and lines. Following awards, Open Call will host its Talent Agent Mock Audition with Clear Talent Group (CTG) and McDonald Selznick Associates (MSA.) Cogliandro will teach the short combination for the audition.

 

Other judges for the weekend include CTG’s Julianna Lichtman and MSA agent Shelli Margheritis.
