Peridance Capezio Center Gala

Peridance Capezio CenterPeridance Capezio Center, led by Artistic Director Igal Perry, celebrates its landmark 30th anniversary at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, June 8 at 8:30 p.m.

The Gala will reflect three decades of dedication to dance, bringing to the stage Peridance’s brightest young talent alongside notable alumni, and featuring performances by Peridance Contemporary Dance Company (PCDC), Peridance Certificate Program, The School at Peridance, Peridance partners – The Limon School, Djoniba Dance Centre and BAILA Society – and other exciting guest artists.

Igal Perry established Peridance Capezio Center in 1983 with a strong vision and a firm belief in dance as an important part of arts and education. Because of Mr. Perry’s fervent passion to deliver the best to his students, Peridance has developed into one of NYC’s finest training dance centers. Through a multimedia performance including a recently commissioned video capturing the Center’s past, present and future, Gala attendees will have a chance to see firsthand how Peridance has transformed and evolved since it first opened its doors to the dance community.

The world-renowned professional company, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, will perform sections of Perry’s Infinity, and Dwight Rhoden’s Evermore, which premiered in the Company’s 2013 Spring Season. Earlier works will also be presented through live performance and archival footage.

Peridance’s Certificate Program students will perform Perry’s Eye of the Storm. Additionally, The School at Peridance will be represented by almost 30 members of the pre-professional program, including the Peridance Youth Ensemble, performing an original ballet by Mr. Perry.

Peridance celebrates its faculty as an integral part of the sustained and upward success of the Center. Hip-hop teacher La Jon Dantzler will choreograph a new work for the event and contemporary teacher Brice Mousett’s company, Oui Danse, will be performing as well, amongst others.

Graciela Kozak, a Peridance faculty member since 1983 and former dancer of PCDC, and Deborah Damast, a 2010 Outstanding Educator Award recipient from the National Dance Education Organization, and also a Peridance faculty member since 1989, will serve as guides throughout this multimedia event.

Attendees are welcomed to a pre-performance champagne reception at Skirball Center, hosted by Mr. Perry, and all patrons are invited to the post-performance party at Peridance Capezio Center (admission included with any ticket purchase.)
