Peridance and Drew Jacoby develop new summer intensive

Peridance Capezio Center has collaborated with Drew Jacoby to develop a new Summer Intensive called BLUEPRINT. This 2-week Intensive for pre-professional and professional Ballet and Contemporary dancers, ages 16-22 will run from August 20 - September 1, 2012.

New York City Ballet's The Nutcracker Live In Cinemas Across America

New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and NCM Fathom have announced an agreement to present the Company’s acclaimed production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ in 530 movie theaters in the United States for one night only on Tuesday, December 13. Tickets will be available beginning Friday, November 18.

Black Dance Festival this weekend

The August Wilson Center of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will present a two-part Black Dance Festival this Friday through Sunday. The acclaimed Ailey II, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Rennie Harris Pure movement and Deeply Rooted are joined by The Center's own Dance Ensemble for four performances celebrating African American dance tradition.

Australian Ballet Company Auditioning Dancers in New York

For the first time ever the Melbourne Ballet Company will be holding auditions outside of Australia. Alisa Finney, Artistic Director, and Sharon Fernandez, Melbourne Ballet Company Principal dancer, will be in New York from January 1-19 taking guest classes and workshops as well as holding the audition. Contracts and Traineeships are available for highly trained classical and contemporary dancers.

Paul Taylor Dance Company's Lincoln Center Season

The Paul Taylor Dance Company's 2012 Season in New York City will take place at the David H. Koch Theater (formerly known as the New York State Theater) in Lincoln Center from March 14 through April 1, 2012. Tickets to the season are on sale. "I'm excited about the move," said Paul Taylor. Dancing in Pink for a Cure

Yesterday, Sunday Oct 16, 115 women and 10 men at the ICI Center at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach danced the afternoon away to join the fight against breast cancer. The Party in Pink Zumbathon, led by 12 Zumba instructors, raised money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

UDMA Chicago this Weekend

The Annual UDMA Chicago Dance Resource & Costume Show will be held this weekend at the Schaumburg Renaissance Convention Center,  and Dance Informa will be there to join in the fun. UDMA holds four shows each year in Long Beach California, Atlanta, New Jersey and Chicago. Former National Ballet director Alexander Grant dies

Alexander Grant, former artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada, died on Friday in London at age 86. It’s reported that Grant had been sick for several months with infections and pneumonia. Born in New Zealand, Grant was renowned as a character dancer with the Royal Ballet, London.

Dance Informa spoke with 19 year old Melanie Moore about her achievements on So You Think You Can Dance. Crowned America’s favorite dancer, Melanie won $250,000 on last Thursday’s results show. When asked what she’d like to spend the money on Melanie said she’d like to save the money and splurge on just one thing. “I’d like some nice carry-on luggage” she said excitedly. And luggage she will need as the Top 10 dancers get ready for their 32 city tour starting in September.
